Michigan tax credit for gifts to public libraries

Did you know that Michigan tax codes offer a tax credit for charitable contributions made to public libraries?  If you donate to a public library you can get half your donation back through a tax credit that reduces the amount you would owe on your Michigan income tax return.  The tax credit allows for up to 50% of a $200 donation ($100) for an individual or 50% of a $400 donation ($200) for a married couple filing jointly. Smaller amounts are also very welcome and are subject to the same credit.

People who itemize on their federal tax form may also be eligible for a tax deduction on their federal return.
