The Friends of the Library is a new group that formed in the fall of 2009. The group's goals are to increase public support of the library through advocacy, to increase the use of the library by the community, and to raise funds to support the growth of the library. Everyone is welcome. The next Friends meeting is Thursday, March 18th at 2:00 pm.
The Friends of the Library have raised funds for a Wi-Fi network. Thank you Friends!
The Friends are raising money for a new sign for the library. A mock-up of the sign, designed by Robin of Maxon Graphics and Designs, can be seen here. If you would like to donate to this project, you can send a check to the library, made out to the Sodus Township Library with New Sign in the memo line.
Did you know that Michigan tax codes offer a tax credit for charitable contributions made to public libraries? If you donate to a public library you can get half your donation back through a tax credit that reduces the amount you would owe on your Michigan income tax return. The tax credit allows for up to 50% of a $200 donation ($100) for an individual or 50% of a $400 donation ($200) for a married couple filing jointly. Smaller amounts are also very welcome and are subject to the same credit.
People who itemize on their federal tax form may also be eligible for a tax deduction on their federal return.
